![]() ![]() Throughout the 1990's the Music Box hosted the highly-caffeinated comedy Triple Espresso for nearly two decades. It was during this era that the name was changed to The Music Box Theatre. Significant rennovations werecompleted in the 1980's to transform the Loring Theatre into a performing arts venue for concerts and variety shows under the Cricket Theatre Company. It was purchased by private owners who used it for community activities, variety shows and as a church. #TRIPLE EXPRESSO MN MOVIE#With the television becoming a household item in the 1950's, and the Minneapolis streetcar system being overtaken by the new bus tycoon, The Loring officiall closed as a public movie theatre. ![]() It was known locally as "the Marble Palace" by residents who enjoyed films for just a few cents.ĭuring the 1930's the Loring expanded to include a variety of "talkies" films, as sound was added to the first motion pictures. On December 4th, 1920, the Loring Theatre officially opened to the public as one of the most elegant silent film theatres in America at the time. The was constructed in under 11 months in 1920 and was built with the finest materials at the time, including a large marble floor lobby and grand staircases. Originally opening under the name "The Loring Theatre", this turn of the century theatre was originally constructed as one of the nation's premier silent film theatres. Handicapped accessible seating is available on the main level. The theater seats 430, split between a balcony level and main floor.
